Biographical Sketches of the Head of School and Board of Directors
of the New Mexico Academy for Sciences and Mathematics
Dr. Kenneth E. O'Bryhim, Head of School
Kenneth E. O'Bryhim, PhD,
(MS,BS) brings with him 33 years of experience in public and international
private school education. He graduated from St. Francis College
in 1974 and received a Master of Science in Gifted & Talented
Education from The Johns Hopkins University in 1981. His PhD from
Berne University was granted in 1999 in the fields of Administration & Supervision
and Gifted & Talented
Education. His doctoral thesis concerned evaluation of highly capable
youth enrolled in overseas American private schools. Dr. O'Bryhim's
extensive experience includes classroom teaching, curriculum development,
school accreditation, and serving as Assistant Headmaster. He has
designed programs for highly capable students and behavioral-at-risk
learners in both the US and abroad. Since 1987, Dr. O'Bryhim has
worked in international schools in Rio de Janeiro and the Dutch
Antilles.
Dr. John T. Redd, President of the Board of Directors
John T. Redd,
MD, MPH, FACP brings to the Board of Directors a career in academic
medicine and epidemiology. Dr. Redd graduated cum laude from Harvard
College and then obtained an MD at the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical School in Dallas. He completed residency training in Internal
Medicine and obtained a Masters in Public Health at Columbia University.
Dr. Redd works for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
and is on permanent assignment to the Indian Health Service Division
of Epidemiology and Disease Prevention in Albuquerque, where he works
on infectious diseases in American Indians and Alaska Natives. He
is a former Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia
University, was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Physicians
in 2002, and is the author of 13 peer-reviewed publications.
Ms. Glenys Carl, Member, Board of Directors
Glenys Carl was born
and brought up in Wales, attended the University of Wales, and then
immigrated to America. Her first employment here was with Detroit's
first Head Start program. Later she moved to Northern California
and worked with the University of California and Stanford Research
in an early childhood development program. She moved to Santa Fe
in 1991 becoming a hospice nurse, author and community net worker.
She is the author of the acclaimed book "Hold
My Hand: A Mother's Journey."
Mr. John R. Dowdle, Member, Board of Directors
John R. Dowdle, MS,
was born and raised in Deming, NM. He attended New Mexico Tech on
a Regents Scholarship and graduated first in his class. After graduation
he was awarded a National Science Foundation Fellowship in Computer-Oriented
Mathematics at the University of North Carolina and an NDEA Fellowship
in Economics at Carnegie-Mellon University, where he received an
MS in Economics with distinction. He is a retired Senior Vice President
of Booz-Allen-Hamilton, a global management and technology consulting
firm, where he served on the Board of Directors for six years. He
has also been a director of a regional bank, a home health-care provider
John and an international trading company. Mr. Dowdle has been a
faculty member at the University of North Carolina and the University
of New Mexico. He currently teaches an MBA course at New Mexico Highlands
University and is an active member of the civic community in Santa
Fe.
Lise Hilboldt, Member, Board of Directors
Dr. David G. Lee, Member, Board of Directors
David G. Lee, PhD, MS is a former President of the Society of Manufacturing
Engineers. He brings to the Board extensive experience in academic
engineering and business, and a long career in research and applied
mechanical and manufacturing technology. He served in executive positions
with the Midway Products Group, Echlin Inc., and Siemens Automotive,
and on the engineering and research staffs of the Ford Motor Company
and Bell Labs. Dr. Lee worked extensively on increasing opportunities
for promising engineering students in Detroit as part of Focus: HOPE,
a nationally recognized civil and human rights organization.
Mr. Thomas Pratt, Vice President, Board of Directors
Thomas L. Pratt, CPA, MBA, brings almost 30 years of business experience
to the Board of Directors, with a specialty in business turnarounds
and strategic and tactical planning. He attended Dickinson College
and obtained a Master of Business Administration from the Stern School
of Business of New York University. Mr. Pratt serves as President
of Earthstone, Inc., in Santa Fe, and is past. President and CEO
of Nambe. He has served several other companies in executive positions.
His acumen in building partnerships, while leading and managing organizational
change, has been immensely valuable.
Dr. Clifton Wickstrom, Member, Board of Directors
Clifton D. Wickstrom, PhD, MPA, brings to the Board of Directors
more than 40 years of experience in management and education, and
an academic background in public and non-profit administration. He
attended Stanford College and received his PhD in Government (Diplomacy)
from Berne University. Dr. Wickstrom is retired after a distinguished
career in the active and reserve components of the US military, and
performed subsequent government service as a financial officer for
the US Army in Alaska. He has served as on the faculty of the University
of San Francisco, Golden Gate University, and taught budgeting, public
policy, gifted and talented education, and finance.
